What type of oils do we use during massage?
Massage oils are used in order not to damage your skin because during the massage there are various mechanical interactions of the hands with the skin. Sometimes different areas of the skin can be very sensitive. Therefore, to facilitate the massage process, soften the skin and enhance the effect, oil is used. It is also important to know that an ordinary body cream is not always suitable because our skin absorbs the texture of the cream very quickly. The oils themselves are best suited for this. Most often, they use natural olive oil without additives, because it is considered hypoallergenic. That is, it contains almost no allergens. That is why even in Ancient Greece, it was used to rub the body of athletes before the competition.
Therefore, if you come for a massage, the massage therapist will most likely use olive oil "by default". However, this does not mean that there are no alternative options. There are a huge number of natural oils that can be used in massage. For example, lavender, rose, citrus oil and patchouli, bergamot, rosemary, clove... and that's not the whole list. You can ask massage therapist before the massage what are the oil options.
However, it is important to know that you can have an allergic reaction, the oil can also have too strong an irritating aroma. The disadvantages of using one of the oils for the first time are that irritation, coughing, sneezing or a rash may appear on the skin. Therefore, it is important to warn the master about existing allergies. Also, be prepared for the fact that before using the oil for the first time, the master may try to apply it to a small area of the skin to check for an allergic reaction.
As for facial massage, we use special blends of different oils produced and certified by the London Association of Massage Therapists. The oil mixture is selected depending on the expected results, such as restoration, nourishment, moisturizing or softening. Also, personally for your skin type.
